Elevated car park at Gando airport

The client requested our services to prepare a report on defects that had appeared in the waterproofing applied to the P1 car park at Gran Canaria airport.

  The problem

During the on-site work carried out for the client, ACSA OBRAS E INFRAESTRUCTURAS, S.A.U., the various types of defects present in the car park were inspected and located. As the car park was in use, it proved very difficult to inspect the areas designated for vehicle parking.

The defects observed fall into three types:

1. Pockets, blisters and ruptures in the polyurea membrane.
2. Delamination of the aliphatic polyurethane paint finish.
3. Repairs carried out on polyurea in poor condition.

  The solution

To achieve a uniform, seamless finish (without patches), the decision was made to carry out repairs by removing the polyurea where necessary and waterproofing again with a methacrylate membrane. Once the surface had been fully repaired, it was coated with two coats of aliphatic polyurethane. Between coats, we will broadcast silica aggregate to comply with the required slip-resistance certification (C3)
