The work carried out

This project was commissioned by the Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which wanted to build a skating rink on top of Estación de Guaguas "El Hoyo".

  The problem

  • Removal of the existing paving blocks
  • Additional load on the structure
  • Resistance to vehicular traffic
  • The financial aspect

  The solution

The solution proposed to the architect in charge of the project (Ricardo  Montesdeoca) was to apply the Zoruflex system.

This surfacing allowed us to work over the existing surface after grinding it, with the added advantage that neither the waterproofing nor the levelling of the roof would be affected at any stage.

The recommended thickness was 4 mm. The small thickness used resolved both the weight and height issues, as the limited thickness considerably reduces the load.

Another advantage of this system is that, by allowing us to work over the existing surfacing and thanks to its thickness, it reduces the problems arising from any differences in height.

The Zoruflex system has test results demonstrating its high resistance to vehicular traffic (200 heavy vehicles/day), making it perfectly suited to the project's aim of creating a skating rink that fully meets the demands of its intended use.

Finally, it should be emphasised that choosing this system made it possible to carry out the work, as the costs of demolition, waterproofing, levelling and resurfacing would have been very high.
