Refurbishment of defective surfacing (cracking, yellowing and aggregate disintegration)
The Cabildo de Lanzarote refurbished the Arrecife bus interchange, opting for a resin system involving several steps:
A few months later, the Cabildo contacted us because the surfacing they had installed had begun to show certain defects:
These issues may be due to a poor choice of resin as the aggregate binder. For example, if an epoxy resin is chosen, its performance may be compromised outdoors, as these resins are very rigid and turn yellow, losing their properties as a binder.
Any type of resin-based surfacing requires a sound, stable substrate, as at a thickness of 3 mm, any imperfection or crack can show through. Our technical team was therefore clear that, with the aggregate disintegrating, there was no guarantee that it could support any solution we provided. For this reason, we decided to mill the entire surface and start from scratch.
As mentioned, the Cabildo opted for our Zoruflex® Continuo system as its choice of surfacing. The reasons were clear: its rapid return to service, as the Arrecife interchange handled heavy traffic, and its durability.
