What is anti-skid road surfacing?
Seamless surfacing for asphalt roads carrying vehicular traffic is a type of surfacing designed for situations requiring a combination of high grip and high resistance to high volumes of heavy traffic, available both unpigmented and pigmented in a wide variety of colours.
It is an ideal solution for high-risk areas with heavy traffic, such as steep gradients, dangerous bends, approaches to roundabouts, traffic lights and junctions, approaches to pedestrian crossings, etc.
Advantages of asphalt surfacing
Some of the benefits of surfacing for asphalt are as follows:
- High-friction surfacing is used in road safety interventions. Braking distances also depend on the vehicle, speed and road condition.
- Selecting high-friction surfacing requires an assessment of the conditions of the road section and the system's technical documentation; it does not, on its own, guarantee the absence of accidents.
- It is applied directly to the wearing course manually, without heating, and can be opened to traffic on the day of application.
- Adhesion to the substrate and waterproofing performance depend on the system applied and the surface preparation.
- Suitability for uneven surfaces and gradients must be assessed for each intervention.
- Compatibility with the anticipated traffic must be checked against the system documentation and the conditions of each project.
Zoruflex®, Byond's seamless surfacing for asphalt roads carrying vehicular traffic
Zoruflex®, Byond's anti-skid road surfacing, is applied directly to asphalt and concrete surfaces to provide solutions for:
- Surfacing to improve slip resistance and waterproofing on:
- Loading and unloading ramps used by forklift trucks, where descending with a load requires substantial braking grip to prevent slipping
- Cycle lanes
- Forklift truck lanes
- Special areas of loading and unloading bays
- Local and district roads to provide visual indications of changes in speed
- Steep road gradients where it helps improve braking
- On straight sections:
